PC-ing of FSU and America

Domenick J. Maglio, Ph.D. Neo-Traditionalist

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in their infinite wisdom decreed that Indian nicknames of universities will be banished from their sponsored tournaments. This decision from the top down is a continuation of "Smugger elites" attempting to re-engineer our culture to their vision.

Gator fans don't gloat. Tomorrow PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) might get the ear of the NCAA governor's board declaring the gator logo illegal to protect the dignity of the reptile.

Many Americans do not care about sports, tuning out the entire uproar. These people, if pushed to present a view probably would see this as a silly, innocuous incident that has no bearing on their lives. This would be incorrect.

The reality is this is the psychological warfare of political correctness (PC). It is taking place on many fronts simultaneously in a gradual though effective manner from the top down. Any resistance by the public to PC encroachment brings a temporary retreat of a step or two backwards then when everyone is relaxed and busy- three steps forward.

In the PC mind set anything "normal" is politically incorrect while anything "abnormal" should be embraced as politically correct. The purpose of political correctness is to destroy traditional American culture. By deluding moral values until good becomes bad and bad becomes good, the culture is turned upside down.

Allegiance to one's university and nation is naturally enhanced by its symbols. The tomahawk chop of Florida State University's Seminoles, and the pledge of allegiance must be eliminated to decrease the loyalty and spirit of the alumni to a particular institution and the citizens to their country.

According to the PC "group think", equal tolerance for all types of behavior weakens the established culture by applying the same empathy for the moral and the immoral, for the criminal and the law abiding, for the bum and the provider, the promiscuous and the faithful, for the atheist and the God worshiping, for the lazy and the industrious, for the corrupt and the virtuous. The moral fiber is weakened allowing a more totalitarian culture to take root.

The NCAA's audacious behavior should not be dismissed as a laughable matter. It is an indicator of how comfortable "Smugger elites" feel in the current state of America. They have every reason to believe that the power of political correctness is crumbling the pillars of American institutions.

Through educational governing boards, the supreme court, local bureaucratic officials and the legal manipulation of the ACLU there has been a dramatic change in our culture. Our children are more likely to be lazy, lying, crybabies, sexually aware celebrity wannabees than the preceding generation. God, self-defense, punishment, sexual abstinence, family, American dream, personal responsibility, have been successfully undermined by political correctness.

Can't we all just get along following political correctness? (Kumbaya.) It is easier to conform and go with the flow of PC edicts rather than battle to maintain high morals and standards. It is easier on ourselves to lessen our personal expectations than to live a disciplined life and it is much easier as an adult to allow everyone to do "their own thing" then it is to hold others to high standards. Being a friend instead of a parent, a wimp instead of a boss, acting like one of the kids instead of the teacher, changing the nickname of the team's mascot instead of fighting the decree is the path of least resistance.

The NCAA's decree on FSU's autonomy might seem like a miniscule issue though when looked at from a broader perspective it is another hole drilled by the "Smugger elite" in the fragile dyke holding our American culture together. Being politically incorrect is the only way to save the America we love.
