Racism is Color Blind and Self Defeating

Domenick J. Maglio, Ph.D. Neo-Traditionalist

Is it racist to say all Whites are racist?

Most adults have seen racism. In our short national history we have witnessed racism against Chinese working on the railroads of the west, Native Americans sent to reservations, Black slavery, indentured servants of various ethnic groups, anti-Semitism, discrimination of Catholic Irish in the late 1800s, southern Italian immigrants classified as “colored” entering Ellis Island in the early 1900s and native Hawaiians who discriminate against howlies (whites).

As a school psychologist in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, I personally witnessed Blacks who had a higher status than Mexican-Americans discriminate against the Mexican-Americans. I have seen Jewish shopkeepers in Brooklyn, New York be less than equitable with non-Jews coming into their stores. Racism is non-discriminatory.

Hispanics, African Americans, or Chinese who negatively discriminate against others or positively discriminate for a member of their own group somehow cannot be considered racist. According to this thinking only Whites can be racist because they have the power to repress others.

According to this thinking the recent remarks made by the campaign committee to re-elect Cynthia McKinney, Black congresswoman from Georgia, were blatantly anti Semitic and anti-White but cannot be considered racist. Ray Nagin, while pandering for Black votes to be re-elected as mayor of New Orleans, remarked that New Orleans should become a “chocolate city”. Hispanic deejays have incited illegal aliens against those who want to enforce immigration laws. Rap music is known for its obscene anti-White racist messages but it is taboo to mention its impact as racial. This thinking grants anyone who is a minority exemption from the racist label. It is obvious that Caucasians are not the only racists on the planet.

Racism has become a self-defining psychological process. Hispanics are people who come from many different racial backgrounds but usually all possess a Spanish surname. On the US Census Report they check a box to define their allegiance to a particular racial group. The same is true of Blacks, Indians, Asians and Whites. DNA scientific research demonstrates that few of us are racially pure. This makes “race” a dubious concept since most of us could check more than one box.

Racial discrimination is color-blind. Racism is defective thinking. Racism is poisonous to personal responsibility. This victimizing thinking is not only fertile ground for breeding hatred but for undermining the will of a group and any individual trying to overcome the challenges of life. Hating and blaming others creates a self-fulfilling prophesy of defeatism making it almost impossible for a people to advance or assimilate in any environment. This can be in a family, community or nation.

When people use excuses for their own lack of personal effort, and positive choices, they stagnate becoming bitter losers. We see this with students who blame their family situation for their failure rather than doing the right thing by studying in school. The same is said for any addictive individual shirking personal responsibility by stressing some perceived hardship as the cause for self-destructive choices.

There are racists who come in every shade, color, ethnic and religious form. There are Whites who are anti-Semitic and Jews who hate Christians and Christians who hate Muslims and radical Islamists who hate everyone including religious Muslims who are unwilling to kill innocent people to gain victory.

People in groups should not allow themselves to be manipulated by pandering leaders who sell racial, religious or ethnic bigotry in order to gain or maintain their status. These demigods, whether Hispanic deejays, Osama Bin Ladin, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Hollywood elite, Christian hate mongers or any leaders who blame a particular group for their own group’s problems should be rejected as exploiters of their people.

Bill Cosby has heroically stood up to the exploiters of Blacks. He is leading people to tear off the yoke of racism by focusing on taking responsibility to control their personal lives. His message is strong because it is true. Setting priorities: for the family, for education of self and children, for contribution to others, maintaining a high work ethic is a direct path to reach the American Dream.

We Americans must stand up to racism of any kind. We must embrace personal responsibility and disregard the hate salesmen who make a living from kindling the fires of racism among people.
