Educational Terrorism is not Protected Under the 1st AmendmentDr. Domenick J. Maglio, Ph.D. Neo-TraditionalistIt is hard to believe that a teacher paid with taxpayer dollars can use our classrooms as a bully pulpit to indoctrinate students with hatred towards America. This is not only damaging to the child’s learning, it erodes the future patriotism of the nation. These malcontent teachers are instructing future adults to despise the foundation of our republic: our history, our freedoms and our free enterprise system. Unfortunately this spewing of a teacher’s personal bias against America is frighteningly common. Jay Bannish, a geography teacher at Overland High School in Colorado was recorded ranting socialist/communist rhetoric by a sixteen-year-old student, Sean Allen. Ward Churchill, a professor with unanswered accusations of plagiarism and his supposed American Indian background at the University of Colorado referred to 9/11 victims as “little Eichmanns”. His diatribes against America would be comical if not for the fact that many of his students have not had the opportunity to learn historical facts due to revisionist textbooks or a reluctance on the part of the state education department to require the teaching of history in grades K-12. David Horowitz, in his new book, 101 Most Dangerous Professors in America, exposes university professor’s attempts at reeducating our youth with communist/socialist failed utopian nonsense. There are many Ward Churchills and Jay Bannishs contaminating our youth through anti American propaganda. It is ironic that the same anti American teachers feel they are entitled to be paid for their incompetent assessment of our nation while arguing to deny our Pentagon the right to pay for accurate accounts highlighting our successes in the Iraqi press. These educational terrorists insist it is unfair to counter terrorist propaganda while they echo the words of our present and past enemies. Educational terrorism has no constitutional right to freedom of speech. Subverting the minds of students against accepted community and nationally cherished ideals does not make a teacher an intellectual. Neither does undermining one’s country do anything to make it better. The privilege of educating someone is a sacred responsibility. Teachers ought to be selected on their character as well as their academic preparation. Ethical, honorable and moral people are the backbone on which we should build our educational system. We have the right to expect our children are learning the truth about issues to maintain the strength and greatness of our nation. The U.S., like the best of families, is not perfect. We have made mistakes. Emphasizing its shortcomings without acknowledging the contributions of a nation’s real history is a sign of an angry, immature and narrow-minded pseudo-educator. This type of person is not truthful and is not attempting to nurture thinking but rather to bully the student into blindly believing as they do. Citizens have the right to expect their children not be encouraged to subvert our constitutional government. The teacher’s sole agenda should be to prepare students to be the best citizens they can be instead of producing future terrorists who hate everything about their existence and are a detriment to society. To turn the tide of educational terrorism school districts are the governmental entities that must demand the following from their teachers:
People who disagree with these guidelines can go into another line of work, start a private Marxist alternative school, or travel permanently to a different country of their choice. A person who cannot do right in his own life has no “right” to educate our children. The expression “Those who can- do, those who can’t- teach”, should be revised to say: “Those who can do should teach, those who cannot should not be allowed to teach.” Freedom of speech does not guarantee the right to corrupt our children and our nation. We Americans are entitled to expect our tax dollars are effectively preparing our students to become good citizens ready and willing to take over the positions of power to strengthen our society. This is not happening. Instead we are creating a generation of unprepared, historically ignorant anti-American people. This has to change. By immersing our children in historical knowledge with a dose of patriotic optimism we will insure the continuing success of our great nation. |
