Patriotism is not for Fools: Antipatriotic Americans are Fools

Domenick J. Maglio, Ph.D. Cultural Warrior

“America, America
God mend our every flaw
Confirm thy soul in self-control
Thy liberty in law.”
- Stanza from “America the Beautiful.”

America is an imperfect nation. Patriots want to make it better by being noble. The purpose of a true patriot is to make his country the best on earth, which is neither foolish nor easy. The control of self for the betterment of the individual, community and country is necessary for maintaining America’s exceptionalism.

The self-absorption of some of the “me generation” makes it difficult to see our achievements. An even smaller faction of them focus only on the negatives that lead them to despise their homeland. Move on. Org ran an ad in the New York Times stating, “Petraes or Betray Us?” associating this competent and brave general with being a traitor.

Discrediting our heroes, institutions and president does nothing to improve us but it does weaken our nation nationally and internationally. These malcontents do not understand the dire consequences we face if America loses the Iraqi war. Yet, nearly 1 of 5 democrats thinks the world would be better off if America loses the war in Iraq. Fox Opinion Dynamic Poll, October 4, 2007.

On September 27th, 202 soldiers returning from their tour in Iraq, on their way to Hawaii were not allowed into the Oakland Airport terminal in California, Instead of rolling out the red carpet and applauding our brave soldiers for defending our freedom, the airport security refused them access to restrooms and eating facilities. This anti patriotic act goes far beyond a lack of gratitude and symbolizes an effort to undermine our country’s morale. Unless we get to the bottom of this humiliation of our soldiers and punish those responsible to make them accountable, we will be witnessing more intense subversive attacks on the USA from a miniscule number of cowardly misfit citizens.

In the US of A misrepresenting freedom of speech as a right to expose secret information and make outrageous accusations against our nation has become almost acceptable. It has become chic in intellectual circles to support anyone who attacks our credibility as a just world leader and demean anyone who notes the greatness of our nation. Their allegiance is to a vision of a one-world government not to the sovereignty of the US. They would rather cite international law not US liberty in law.

President GW Bush applied international law in the John Medelin case, a confessed murderer of two teenage Texan girls instead of American law to appease Mexican globalists. Ex-president, Jimmy Carter, slanders America’s interests while upholding the non-rights of our enemies. The Supreme Court is citing international law to justify their deviating from American precedents.

Iowa congressman, Dick Durbin compares the treatment of prisoners by our soldiers as being no better than the Nazis. Pennsylvania congressman, John Murtha said, before any investigation, “our troops over reacted because of the pressure on them and they killed civilians in cold blood Senate Majority leader, Harry Reid, stated to the American public that the war was lost.

United we stand, divided we fall. Our Medal of Honor winners are not celebrated, instead we have a steady dribble of leaks by the NY Times originating in our State Department, Pentagon and even the White House. We must enforce our laws punishing the leakers and censoring politicians that make false accusations that defame others especially our troops.

If patriotism is obsolete in halls of congress and the media, let us clean house. For the self- preservation of our nation, patriotism must be encouraged to flourish. Patriotic fervor empowered us to endure and fight at our optimal level to eventual victory. Losing the propaganda war ends in partisan bickering and inevitable defeat.

As in WWII the government, media and our citizens knew not encouraging patriotism to be expressed would lead to weakening morale and would embolden our enemies. Hollywood directed the charge with patriotic movies, songs and “rah-rah “ newsreels. We were emotionally prodded to demonstrate our loyalty to our flag and our country. Winning the propaganda war was a major reason for our victory.

It may be fashionable to think of patriotism as an indication of ignorant people loving their country and asking God for guidance.

The truth is anti-patriotic Americans have lost their morals and natural instincts for self-preservation. It should be obvious who are the real fools.

“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing is worth a war, is worse.” John Stewart Mills
